Jonny Butler is a Senior UX/UI Designer and Design Manager at Mile Two with 18+ years of experience, leading design teams in the designing of applications that build trust between a human and machine. He has a unique blend of generalist skills drawn from being a business owner / acquisitionist, pro audio technician, college instructor, author, sound engineer, music performer, maker, visual artist, and web developer to name a few. These experiences allow him to meet the demands of some of the most challenging digital channel problems that have surfaced in mainstream digital marketing (iHeartMedia), digital transformation, healthcare insurance (CareSource), and the DoD with clients such as Air Force Research Laboratory & DARPA, to deliver web, IoT & OS-based software solutions.

Jonny is actively learning and well versed in the specialized areas of Cognitive Systems Engineering & Resilience Engineering under the guidance of Alex Morison, Ph.D (Chief Science Officer of Mile Two) along with David Woods, Ph.D (Ohio State University) and John Allspaw (former CTO of Etsy) both founders of Adaptive Capacity Labs. This added understanding takes his UX/UI prowess to a deeper level, bringing a unique perspective and approach to solving problems to the table.

On August of 2021, Jonny co-authored “Chapter 36: Representation Design” of the Handbook of Human Factors and Ergonomics, 5th Edition, under John Flach, Ph.D (Cognitive Systems Engineer and Emeritus Professor of Psychology, Wright State University). A must have handbook for the human factors professional.

Most recently, Jonny contributed to writing a research paper on the “Lessons Learned in Human-Artificial Intelligence Teaming in Business Processes” as accepted by Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute and Stanford University for the AI Engineering Symposium | AAAI Spring Symposium Series 2022.

Jonny taught graduate courses on Web Design & Front-End Development at The Modern College of Design. He holds multiple ADDY & GDUSA design awards as well as Consumer Health Information awards. He is certified by the Nielsen Norman Group as a UX professional, and is a champion of Human-Centered Design.
